The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to tell you what kind of information we may gather about you, how we may use that information, whether we disclose it to anyone and the choices you have regarding our use of, and your ability to correct this information.

What personal information do we collect?

The type of information collected by Perth Airport will depend on your relationship with the company and information required by law.

Personal information we collect about you in general dealings could include:

  • Your name, address, telephone numbers, date of birth, employment details, flight details, credit card details, ASIC details, passport details and your driver's licence number.
  • A recording of your image on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) or a photograph.
  • A recording of your voice from calls to certain airport operations or security telephone lines.
  • Your vehicle licence plate number.
  • The time and date you enter or exit a carpark.

In the case of matters relating to security or airfield operations - for example, applications for an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC), Visitor Identification Card (VIC) or other forms of identification card or an Authority to Drive Airside (ADA) at Perth Airport - we may collect additional personal information in order to manage and administer our business systems and comply with our legislative obligations.

This information includes:

  • Your place of birth, country of citizenship and gender.
  • Your photograph.
  • In the case of applications for an ASIC or other form of identification card, your previous residential addresses for the last 10 years, details of previous criminal offences, details of any pending prosecutions, and information provided to us by relevant government agencies (such as the outcome of criminal records checks, security assessments and immigration checks).

In the case of retail, marketing and competition related matters, we might collect additional personal information such as:

  • Your preferences concerning types of products or services.
  • The frequency of use of certain types of products or services.
  • The methods, purpose and frequency of travel.
  • Your preferred destinations.
  • Your income demographics.

When visiting our website we may automatically record details about any computer used to access our website. This may include the IP address, domain name, browser type, the date and the time of access and details of the information downloaded. These details are not capable of identifying you and are used solely for statistical analysis and research on usage patterns to improve this website.

 

How do we collect information?

Personal information will normally be collected directly from you when you deal with us by telephone, by correspondence through a letter, fax or e-mail, via our website or mobile application, by making an application for an ASIC, VIC, ADA or other form of identification card, or through direct face-to-face contact.

Other ways in which we collect personal information include:

  • Through the use of 'cookies' on our website. A cookie is a very small text file which is stored on your computer's hard drive when you first visit our website. This information may be used to identify repeat visitors to our website and areas of interest on our website. Should you be concerned about cookies, you can set your browser to refuse cookies or alert you to the fact that cookies are being used.
  • When you logon to Wi-Fi at the Airport (including through Facebook) or use mobile applications developed by us.
  • Where you access any of our retail products or services.
  • Where you enter a Perth Airport competition.
  • Photographing your vehicle licence plate number and recording your entry and exit times when you use our car parks. Perth Airport uses this information for crime prevention and administrative purposes such as billing and helping to locate misplaced vehicles.
  • Recording your image from CCTV taken on Perth Airport's premises or through body-worn video. Perth Airport uses CCTV for ongoing crime prevention, aviation safety, airport security, incident management and operational purposes.
  • Through recording calls to certain airport operations and security telephone lines for security and/or safety purposes.

In the case of retail, marketing and competition related matters, we might collect additional personal information such as:

  • Your preferences concerning types of products or services.
  • The frequency of use of certain types of products or services.
  • The methods, purpose and frequency of travel.
  • Your preferred destinations.
  • Your income demographics.
  • Your use of our website, our mobile apps and social media platforms you use.

We use third party vendor marketing services, including Google's 'Customer Match' and Facebook's 'Custom Audience' to display advertisements. Marketing services are performed by tracking usage data, by using cookies and by using personal information provided to Perth Airport and could result in users of our websites being shown Perth Airport advertisements, for example, while using the Facebook website or Google search engine. These services allow us to tailor our marketing to better suit your needs and display adverts that are relevant to you.

There may be occasions when we collect personal information about you from a third party, such as:

  • A service provider.
  • A customer airline or retail outlet.
  • In relation to security matters, a government department, body or law-enforcement agency.
  • In relation to issuing an Infringement Notice under the Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulations 1997, a government department.
  • A publicly available source.
  • Our professional advisers (for example, our insurers and consultants).
  • Our contracted service providers (for example, contracted security, car parking and cleaning companies).
  • Any other organisations conducting activities on behalf of Perth Airport (for example, construction and related companies engaged by Perth Airport).

We may also collect personal or other information from third parties you refer to us (for example, persons you engage to organise your travel). If we do so, we will assume and you will ensure that you have made the third party aware of your referral and the purposes involved in the collection, use and disclosure of the relevant personal or other information.

When you communicate with PAPL through social media sites or using applications provided by third parties (for example, via your smart phone) we may collect information associated with that communication.

If this occurs we assume you have informed yourself of the ways such sites or applications can collect and disclose your personal information to others (including PAPL) and that you consent to that collection and disclosure and PAPL's collection for the purposes of your communication.

Where Perth Airport collects personal information about you from a third person, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that you are aware that we have the information and that it will be handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

 

What if you refuse to supply information?

Generally speaking, you are not obliged to provide us with personal information. However, failure to do so may mean that we are unable to transact business with you, process any application for the issue of an authority, licence, pass or permit, or provide you with an appropriate level of service.

 

Opting in or out

At the point we collect information from you, you may be asked to "opt in" to consent to us using or disclosing your personal information other than in accordance with this policy or any applicable law. For example, you may be asked to "opt in" to receive further information or communications from our advertisers and supporters which do not fall into one of the categories described above.

You will generally be given the opportunity to "opt out" from receiving communications from us or from third parties that send communications to you in accordance with this policy. For example, you will be given the option to unsubscribe from e-newsletters and other marketing or promotional material sent by us. How does Perth Airport use your information?

Personal Information collected by Perth Airport is generally used in any of the following ways:

  • To help us develop, improve, manage and administer the services we provide to you.
  • To ensure that our business systems are functional and reliable, which may include fulfilling legal obligations.
  • For billing purposes.
  • To process applications effectively for the issue of authorities, licenses, passes, permissions and permits (including ADAs, ASICs, and other identification cards).
  • To assess whether or not any authorities, licenses, passes, permissions and permits should be cancelled or suspended.
  • To conduct marketing activities.
  • To conduct marketing research and other research to improve our products, services and marketing activities.
  • As part of the investigation and analysis of incidents or occurrences (including potential incidents and occurrences) which occur on or at Perth Airport.
  • To prosecute individuals who damage our property or abuse, attack or injure our staff or other person.
  • To investigate, respond to or defend claims made against, or involving, Perth Airport.
  • To enforce a contract or agreement which Perth Airport has with you.
  • To issue infringement notices or collect fines in accordance with the Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulations 1997.

Reasons we collect CCTV footage (in addition to the above) specifically include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining transport security.
  • Operational reasons such as traffic flow, passenger and aircraft facilitation and managing access.
  • Detecting and deterring criminal behaviour on Perth Airport.
  • Detecting and deterring suspicious, inappropriate or unauthorised use of our facilities.
  • Monitoring the safety and security of airport users and workers and conducting incident investigations.

We will not use your personal information for purposes other than those set out above without your consent, unless that use is authorised under the Privacy Act 1988.

 

When does Perth Airport disclose personal information to third parties?

Perth Airport will only disclose your personal information to persons or bodies external to Perth Airport where permitted by the Privacy Act 1988, including in the following circumstances:

  • Where you consent to the disclosure.
  • In the case of information collected through your application for an ASIC or any other identification card, this may be provided to government agencies from time to time (such as the Commonwealth Attorney General's Department, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation or AusCheck; the Australian Federal Police; Australian Customs and Border Protection Service; the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship; and the WA Police) for security, law enforcement, customs and immigration purposes.
  • In the case of information collected through your application for a VIC, this may be shared with our authorised agents who issue VICs on our behalf.
  • To our contractors and agents (for the purpose of the services they provide) so that we can complete a transaction on your behalf or provide you with a service that you have requested.
  • Where required by law including under a subpoena issued by a court.
  • Where you have a Staff Parking Access Card, we provide details to airlines / tenants for billing and administration purposes including your name, registration and the entry and exit times into our carparks.
  • In relation to an infringement notice, including providing information to a third party such as a government agency, your employer or principal to enforce the fine or for safety reasons.
  • To enforce a ban from airport premises, including providing information to a third party such as a government agency, law enforcement agency, our employees or contractors, your employer or principal.
  • For law enforcement, insurance matters, safety purposes, or operational purposes for which the information was collected.
  • Where a person has been successfully prosecuted for damaging our property or abusing, attacking or injuring our staff or other person through a media release.
 

Is personal data stored outside of Australia or disclosed to overseas recipients?

Perth Airport stores some personal information outside of Australia in locations such as Europe and the USA. Perth Airport also discloses limited personal information to overseas recipients.

In these circumstances Perth Airport takes reasonable measures to ensure this information is secure and will not be held, used or disclosed in a manner which is inconsistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

 

How does Perth Airport protect your personal information?

Perth Airport has security measures designed to provide reasonable protection against misuse and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Such measures include:

  • Firewalls and login password protocols for all information stored electronically.
  • Secure, access-controlled premises.
  • Limited access locations for information stored as hard copy.
  • Confidentiality provisions in our employment and service contracts.

We may be required by law to retain certain information for a set period of time. Once this period of time expires, we will destroy or delete this information in a secure manner.

 

What rights do you have to access and correct your personal information held by us?

Requests for access and/or correction and/or deletion of personal information will be assessed in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988.

There is no application fee for making a request to access your personal information. However, we may charge an administrative fee for the provision of information in order to recover costs. For example, if you make multiple requests for information, the information requested is voluminous or we incur third party costs in providing you access to your personal information.

 

Privacy notice – Parking

Perth Airport Pty Ltd (ABN 24 077 153 130) (we, our, us) collects your personal information in connection with your parking reservation for the purposes of creating your online account and processing your parking reservation.

The license plate information you provide to Perth Airport when making your parking reservation enables us to manage the operation of the car park. By entering the car park, you consent to Perth Airport collecting and using this information.

Our car parks and associated areas may also be monitored by CCTV. Upon entry to the car parks, you accept the use of electronic monitoring via both licence plate recognition and CCTV camera technology being operational at all times.

Personal information will be transmitted to third party vendors (for example, Chauntry and Braintree) to provide car park services relating to booking and payment.

We may send you an SMS in certain circumstances to manage your booking, for example, where your booking does not activate on entry to the carpark and to provide instructions to avoid double-payment.

If you opt-in, we will send you airport discounts, travel deals and blogs, news, announcements and competitions. You may also opt-in to be receive surveys and invitations for market research.

If you don’t provide your personal information, we will not be able to set up your account or process your online booking. We otherwise use, disclose and handle your personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. This policy also contains information regarding how to opt-out of marketing communications from us, the contact details of our Privacy Officer and how you can seek access to and correct your personal information or raise a privacy concern with us.

 

Privacy notice – Biometrics Trial

Biometrics is a facial recognition service offered by Perth Airport Pty Ltd (PAPL) to passengers above the age of 16 flying to selected destinations. PAPL does not provide any warranty with regards to the availability of biometrics and reserves the right to withdraw this service at any time, without any liability to passengers.

To participate, passengers will be able to enrol at clearly indicated kiosks to use biometrics at bag drop and boarding. Participation is optional and passengers can skip or discontinue the use of biometrics at any time. Your biometric template is hosted in Australia and will NOT be shared with Airlines.

What information is collected by PAPL and how is it used?

If you decide to participate, we will collect the following personal information directly from you.

At enrolment

  • Personal information contained in passports (name, date of birth, sex, nationality, passport number, photograph).
  • Your facial image captured by the camera.
  • Personal information included on boarding pass (name, departure location, arrival location, flight number, etc.).

Your personal information will be processed to verify your identity through the creation of a biometric template. Your biometric template will be encrypted and stored on a secure server managed by our third-party biometric provider to serve as your unique identifier when using facial recognition services. Once enrolment is completed, any information collected locally and no longer required will be deleted.

At Bag drop and boarding

  • Your facial image will be captured by the touchpoint camera.
  • Your facial image will be processed and matched against your unique identifier to confirm your identity. Once your identity is confirmed you will be able to drop bags and board your flight without providing any additional information such as scanning your passport or boarding pass. PAPL/Airline staff may still make manual checks as required.

All the personal information used directly for the biometric services will be automatically deleted from our third-party server within 24 hours after

Who is your personal information shared with?

We rely on the support of Amadeus IT Group SA, a third-party biometric provider, to offer you the Biometric services and therefore need to share your personal information with Amadeus for the purposes described in this section above. Amadeus processes your personal information according to our instructions.

How does PAPL protect your personal information?

We use reasonable organizational, technical, and administrative measures to protect personal data under our control, prevent privacy-invasive events (e.g., data breach) and identify risks and reduce their impact. Biometrics follows the stringent security review process to ensure compliance to the security controls described in Amadeus Corporate Security Policies & Standards. All personal data is transmitted and stored securely in compliance with applicable data protection legislation.
