FOD waste bin

Waste Management Program

Perth Airport's target is to reduce waste to landfill by 20% and increase recycling by 75% by 2030.

Perth Airport has upgraded the bin systems across Terminals 1 and 2 to include a white Bottles & Cans bin – for Containers for Change eligible drink containers (look for the 10c mark) - and a green Organics & Coffee Cups bin – for food scraps, compostable packaging, tissues, napkins and compostable coffee cups.

These upgrades follow the successful trial of Bottles & Cans bins at Terminal 4 and are a step towards Perth Airport’s sustainability targets.

By using the right bins, passengers can make a big impact. Placing bottles and cans with the 10c mark into the dedicated white bins raises valuable funds for Breast Cancer Care WA. It also diverts organics and compostable items from landfill turning them into other valuable resources. The waste is sorted, processed, and sold to approved recyclers, where the containers are then transformed into new products and can even play a role in forming aeroplane wings.

Not sure what goes where? Just check the tailored signage on each bin for quick guidance.

Together, we can give waste a second life and support Perth Airport’s commitment to sustainability and social value.
