Contamination and PFAS

Perth Airport operations can require the storage, handling and use of a variety of hazardous materials and chemicals.

The most significant hazardous material stored and used on the Airport Estate is aviation fuel. Asbestos has also been identified on the Airport Estate and an asbestos register is maintained to manage the risk of exposure and guide remedial activities. Incorrect use, handling or transport of hazardous materials and chemicals can have a negative impact on the environment and human health. The Airport Environment Strategy describes the following objectives for Hazardous Materials Management Use:

  • Implement best practice environmental controls for the prevention and management of spills and release of hazardous materials
  • Prevent contamination of soil within the Airport Estate
  • Manage and investigate known or potentially contaminated sites in accordance with relevant legislation
PFAS has also been identified on the Perth Airport Estate. Click here to find out more about PFAS.
