Denmark

Lose yourself in ancient woodlands and enjoy the view from the treetops in the Denmark region.

A picturesque 4.5 hour drive south of Perth, you can easily rent a car and take a driving holiday to Denmark in Western Australia’s south-west. This coastal town sits on the banks of the Denmark River, and is surrounded by forest, beautiful national parks and top wineries. Denmark has been drawing in visitors with its charm and laidback atmosphere.

How do I get to Denmark?

Denmark is located on Wilson’s Inlet, more than 400 kilometres south of Perth. Head south on the Albany Highway for the most direct route, or explore other attractions along the scenic Southwestern Highway.

Explore Denmark

There are plenty of things to do in Denmark, particularly if you take advantage of our Denmark car rental deals and experience all of the region’s great attractions.

Choose from standard and luxury Denmark accommodation options, and try a few of the tasty local restaurants. Sightseers can follow walking trails through the town to learn more about the history of the area, or travel further afield on the Heritage Rail Trail which extends 54 kilometres along the coast.

The town itself is home to a number of boutique stores where you can purchase local arts and crafts. Artists living in Denmark have used the surrounding landscape as inspiration in their work.

If you are travelling with children, there is plenty to keep them amused in Denmark. Kids can enjoy Denmark’s Dinosaur World, or try and find their way through the Denmark Maze.

The area is popular for fishing, and you may be lucky enough to spot bottlenose dolphins or southern right whales at certain times of the year. There are many beaches to explore in the area, including the popular Ocean Beach. This beach is popular for surfing and the shallow water makes it ideal for swimming.

Stop in at top local wineries

For a fantastic dining experience, visit a few of the local wineries. Quality wines like shiraz, chardonnay and sauvignon are all produced in the area. Visit the restaurants in the wine region to sample some of the wines and enjoy delicious food. The area often plays host to events and live entertainment.

Admire the Tudor architecture at Castelli Estate while attending one of the great live music events. Or visit Poacher’s Ridge Winery and Café where you can enjoy the views and try some premium wine.

Walk in the treetops

Car hire in Denmark allows you to explore the main tourist attraction in the area, the mighty Valley of the Giants. This ancient forest is home to many native trees such as the impressive Giant Tingle Tree. Climb up into the canopy on the Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk, an enjoyable 45-minute drive west of Denmark. A 40 metre high suspension bridge awards you with fantastic views back down over the trees.

On the ground, the Ancient Empire Walk provides visitors with information and interactive displays so they can learn more about the native fauna. The trees surrounding the trail are more than 400 years old, and you can experience it up close along the boardwalk.
