Vietnam Airlines to commence non-stop service to Perth in December
This will be the first non-stop service between Perth, Western Australia and Vietnam.
The announcement of this new, non-stop service coincides with the 78th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the 50th anniversary of Australia-Vietnam diplomatic relations.
The new service will generate more than 85,000 seats and nearly 6,000 tons of cargo capacity annually.
Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:
“Securing this new direct flight between Vietnam and Perth opens up an abundance of opportunities between the two destinations and represents a whole new inbound visitor market for Western Australia’s industry, tourism and hospitality sectors – supporting jobs and boosting the economy.
“Today’s announcement further cements our important airlinks within the South East Asia region, who we have a strong relationship and track record with, and my Government is very proud of this progress and the growing opportunities into the future.
“Direct aviation links like these benefit our State, producers and businesses as they present additional avenues to expand trade opportunities for fresh produce exports and other goods to be efficiently transported.
“We have a growing Western Australian-Vietnamese community in our State which has contributed to our social, economic and cultural development and this announcement will provide better direct connections for the community whether it be for leisure, business or studying opportunities.”
Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:
“We’re very excited to announce this new service and showcase everything our State has to offer to more visitors from Vietnam.
“Vietnam is becoming an emerging tourism market for Western Australia, with 10,000 visitors travelling into our State for the year up until March 2023, and these new flights will further bolster that with a further 43,000 people able to come in each year.
“With flights starting in December just in time for the peak summer season, I’m sure this route will be very popular, and helps affirm our status as the Western Gateway to Australia.”
Comments attributed to Acting CEO Perth Airport Kate Holsgrove:
There is so much opportunity and potential to be unlocked with a non-stop service between Vietnam and Perth – this is why it has been one of our key international target markets.
“Vietnam is Western Australia’s 14th largest trading partner, with total trade of $2.4 billion in 2022-23.and the ability to connect by air will only grow business ties.
“Vietnam is also Western Australia’s 11th largest market for international students accounting for 3% of the State’s total international student enrolments.
“This new, non-stop option will provide more opportunities to tap into this growing visitor market from Vietnam and we look forward to working with our tourism and education industries to welcome Vietnamese visitors and students to our great State and its fantastic institutions and experiences.
For Western Australians, Vietnam is an exciting destination where history, culture and culinary delights come together. Holiday-makers will be able to explore popular cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang and many more as well as UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Ha Long Bay.
Comments attributed to General Manager - Vietnam Airlines Australia, Mr Nguyen Huu Tung:
“In line with our strategy to expand Vietnam Airlines flight network to Australia, Perth has been chosen right after Sydney and Melbourne. With the Western Australians’ love to travel and un-wind after a hard-working bout, Vietnam Airlines’ new, non-stop service between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth will help bring Western Australians to numerous famous tourist spots in Vietnam, travelling beyond Vietnam will also be made easy thanks to convenient connecting from Ho Chi Minh City to Europe and North East Asia on Vietnam Airlines expanding flight network.
Vietnam Airlines also believe launching the new, direct flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth will promote inbound visitation from Vietnam to Perth where almost 20,000 Vietnamese born Australians and more than 300,000 residents with Vietnamese heritage currently live, not to mention the arrival of Vietnamese younger generations who are looking for opportunities to further their education or a new land to explore.”
The airline will fly a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the route. The aircraft has a total of 274 seats including 28 Business Class, 35 Premium Economy Class and 211 Economy Class seats, offering passengers a choice when travelling between the two ports.
The inaugural service will commence on 7 December (SGN-PER) arriving into Perth at 23:05 and depart on 8 December (PER-SGN) at 00.50.
