Virgin Australia launches flight to Tasmania with new Perth- Launceston service

Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer Kevin Brown said the seasonal route is another example of Virgin Australia’s long-term commitment to Western Australia and that we are working with the airline to introduce new and expanded routes as aviation begins its recovery.

“Pre-Covid, Launceston was our largest unserved domestic route with an approximate 45,000 passengers travelling between the two destinations (via other ports), so we expect high demand for the service particularly over the holiday period.

“It has been a tough year and as vaccination rates rise and Australia begins to open up, the introduction of new and expanded routes will provide a great opportunity for people to travel to a domestic destination that they have never experienced before.

“It’s great news for Western Australians wanting to discover Tasmania; it’s also great news for Tasmanians wanting to come to WA,” Mr Brown continued.

“Our team has worked tirelessly over the past 18 months to implement Covid-safe measures across the passenger journey from carpark to forecourt, to terminal, to security, to flight gate.  The additional Covid safety measures reduce touchpoints and promote Covid-safe practices such as physical distancing and hand hygiene

“We were the first Australian airport to receive an international ACI Covid Safe accreditation which should provide added confidence for travellers to start booking again,” Mr Brown said.

This exciting new service creates an important connection between the two cities and adds 4,200 leisure tourism seats per month to the Perth and Western Australia market.

The service will operate over the peak-summer season on Monday, Friday and Sunday on Virgin’s Boeing 738 aircraft. Departing PER at 14:00 and arriving at PER at 23:30
