AirAsia propels WA’s love affair with Indonesia launching new Lombok service
14 March, 2019
Western Australians who love visiting Indonesia have a new travel option with the announcement by AirAsia of a Perth to Lombok service beginning in June this year.
The announcement, which follows the recently celebrated 10th anniversary of AirAsia’s first service into Perth, will see four weekly services between Perth and Lombok from June 2019.
Perth Airport Chief Corporate Services Officer Debra Blaskett said the partnership with AirAsia has helped change the face of travel for many Western Australians.
“AirAsia has been in the vanguard of a low-cost carrier revolution that has delivered more affordable and accessible travel options than ever before,” Ms Blaskett said.
“Low-cost carriers mean affordable international travel is now a possibility for a much larger section of the WA community.
“The new service will further consolidate the airline’s position in the Perth market by adding more than 74,000 seats to the market annually.
“Western Australians have a great propensity for travel and Indonesia represents Perth Airport’s largest outbound market as it offers an easily accessible and attractive destination for travellers,” Ms Blaskett said.
With a flight time of just under four hours, Lombok will provide Western Australians with a new short-haul destination which offers an array of attractions including Selong Belanak Bay and the Gili Islands.
“Indonesia is also Western Australia’s eighth largest visitor market. Just last year, Western Australia welcomed 31,000 Indonesian visitors, injecting more than $60 million into the WA economy,” Ms Blaskett said.
