Virgin Australia connecting Perth and Hobart

17 September, 2018
Flying between Western Australia and Tasmania has become a lot easier with the inaugural Virgin Australia direct flight taking off today between Perth and Hobart, the only airline to offer the route in Australia.

Virgin Australia will operate a return service three times a week between Hobart and Perth on the airline’s Boeing 737 aircraft, and Group Executive Rob Sharp said demand has exceeded expectations.

“The demand for the route has been so popular that Virgin Australia has added up to seven extra weekly flights over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

“We have increased our weekly Perth to Hobart return services from three up to five between 17 December 2018 and 6 January 2019.

“This gives guests the opportunity to travel a more direct and affordable way between these two cities,” Mr Sharp said.

Perth Airport Chief Corporate Service Officer, Debra Blaskett, said this exciting new service creates an important connection between the two capital cities.

“It will save passengers at least an hour of travelling time, giving them extra time to explore the unique attractions of each city.

“It’s great news for Western Australians wanting to discover Tasmania; it’s also great news for Tasmanians wanting to come to WA.”

Ms Blaskett said the new route highlights the importance of opening another connection for the city, with the new service providing seats for nearly 55,000 passengers to fly directly between Perth and Hobart.
