Airport Estate digs deep for families this Christmas
14 December, 2017
This festive season, Perth Airport put the call out to its estate tenants to take part in the inaugural Perth Airport Estate Christmas Food Drive for Foodbank WA.
“The response has been great, with a number of tenants including DHL, MacMahon, Maroomba Airlines, Avis/Budget Group, Jesters, F45 Fitness and Kwik Koffee taking part in the combined food drive,” said Debra Blaskett, Chief Corporate Services Officer, Perth Airport.
“Our partnership with Foodbank WA is one of our major community sponsorships and this year we have extended our support to involve our tenants so we could help more families in need this Christmas”, she continued.
During November and December, airport estate tenants were encouraged to receive either a food collection box or a larger bin to collect non-perishable items. An incredible 800kgs of food was collected during the five week period which equates to almost 2000 meals for those in need this Christmas.
“The types of items that have been donated are canned fruit and vegetables, long life milk, dried pasta, pasta sauce, rice, tea, coffee, dried fruit and some lovely fruit mince pies and canned Christmas puddings,” said Greg Hebble, Chief Executive Officer, Foodbank WA.
“Our partnership with Perth Airport has raised the profile of Foodbank WA and the estate-wide food drive is a fantastic new initiative which brings all the diverse businesses that operate on the airport estate together for one worthy cause,” he continued.
“94,000 people receive hunger relief every month but 13,000 West Australians go hungry in WA every month with 1/3 of these being children. Our shelves and supplies are running really low so we are very appreciative of this extra support from Perth Airport and its tenants,” said Mr Hebble.
Foodbank’s Centre for Hunger Relief is strategically located on the airport estate which places it near key transport networks which has optimised distribution efficiencies throughout the metro area and the State.
