New Perth Airport access road opens
13 April, 2015
Perth Airport’s new 1.6 kilometre primary access road into the current Terminal 1 and 2 precinct - Airport Drive - opened today, marking a major milestone as part of Perth Airport’s commitment to improving the customer journey. To facilitate ongoing works associated with the Gateway WA project, Airport Drive has opened several months ahead of schedule.
Airport Drive, which provides direct access to Long Term and Short Term car parks and both T1 and T2, will initially be a single lane carriageway in both directions until mid-July 2015 to allow landscaping to be completed, before becoming dual carriageway.
“Perth Airport is pleased to support the progress that is being made on the Gateway WA project, by being able to open Airport Drive early, which is a credit to the civil works contractor, Brierty, and the project team,” said Brad Geatches, Chief Executive Officer, Perth Airport.
“This milestone, together with the impressive progress being made by the Gateway WA team, will eventually deliver a quicker and more efficient travel experience for passengers and visitors to Perth Airport,” he said.
Airport Drive currently joins Tonkin Highway at the Dunreath Drive interchange, however, it will be connected to the major free-flowing Tonkin/Leach Highway interchange towards the end of 2015, which is currently under construction as part of the Gateway WA project. Once complete, Airport Drive and the ‘Grand Gateway’ interchange will be an iconic entrance point to the city of Perth.
The section of Dunreath Drive that connects to Horrie Miller Drive, after the turn off to Airport Drive, has now been permanently closed.
The $28.5 million Airport Drive Project is part of Perth Airport’s extensive $1 billion redevelopment program and will be completed in July 2015.
