Perth Airport first to welcome Malindo Air
09 October, 2015
Perth Airport welcomes the announcement by Malindo Air that they will commence services into the Australian market, with the airline’s inaugural Kuala Lumpur to Perth service due to arrive on 19 November 2015.
Malindo Air will initially operate a daily service between Perth and the Malaysian capital, increasing to 11 times per week from 3 December 2015, on the airline’s 180-seat Boeing 737-900 aircraft.
“We are delighted to welcome the first Malindo Air service to Australia”, said Brad Geatches, Chief Executive Officer, Perth Airport.
“Last year, more than 300,000 passengers travelled between Perth and Malaysia, and it remains our fifth largest international market. Malaysia is a popular holiday destination and, combined with a large number of passengers also visiting friends and relatives, will continue as one of Perth’s core markets for many years to come.
“As the third carrier on the Perth to Kuala Lumpur route, Western Australians now have more options than ever before when travelling to Asia and onward to other destinations,” said Mr Geatches.
Malindo Air was launched as a joint venture between Malaysia’s National Aerospace and Defence Industries (NADI) (51%) and Lion Air of Indonesia (49%). The airline prides itself on providing low cost air fares with premium in-flight services included, such as a baggage allowance and in-flight entertainment for all passengers.
“The additional new routes for Malindo Air mark the growth of the airline simultaneously with the growth of its fleet this year,” said Malindo Air Chief Executive Officer, Chandran Rama Muthy.
“Malindo took to the skies in March 2013 with domestic flights and has since grown to operate routes to all major airports in Malaysia and across regional destinations in Indonesia, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Singapore. Malindo Air will take delivery of an additional three new generation Boeing 737 aircraft by the end of this year,” he said.
As the gateway to Western Australia, Perth Airport is committed to supporting Western Australian tourism through increased services and establishing new and improved airline partnerships that encourage growth in visitor numbers to Perth and Western Australia.
