Perth Airport welcomes Malindo Air

19 November, 2015
Perth Airport today welcomed Malindo Air’s first service to Australia, which was met on arrival with an impressive water cannon salute

The 737-900 aircraft is the first service to be operated by Malindo Air into the Australian market.

Malindo Air will initially operate a daily service between Perth and the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, increasing to 11 times per week from 3 December 2015, on the airline’s 180-seat Boeing 737-900 aircraft.

“We are delighted to welcome the first Malindo Air service to Australia today,” said Scott Norris, Executive General Manager, Commercial Services, Perth Airport.

“Last year, more than 300,000 passengers travelled between Perth and Malaysia, and it remains our fifth largest international market. Malaysia is a popular holiday destination and, combined with a large number of passengers also visiting friends and relatives, will continue as one of Perth’s core markets for many years to come.

“As the third carrier on the Perth to Kuala Lumpur route, Western Australians now have more options than ever before when travelling to Asia and onward to other destinations,” said Mr Norris.

Malindo Air was launched as a joint venture between Malaysia’s National Aerospace and Defence Industries (NADI) (51%) and Lion Air of Indonesia (49%). The airline prides itself on providing low cost air fares with premium in-flight services included, such as a baggage allowance and in-flight entertainment for all passengers.

As the gateway to Western Australia, Perth Airport is committed to supporting Western Australian tourism through increased services and establishing new and improved airline partnerships that encourage growth in visitor numbers to Perth and Western Australia.
