Santa has landed at Perth Airport
What’s happening?
There are spectacular Christmas decorations in all terminals at Perth Airport, brightening up the passenger experience over the festive season. Check out the massive Boab tree on the T2 forecourt, with more than 21,000 LED lights creating quite an impression. The Boab is complemented by kangaroos and grass trees, and there are more traditional trees in T1, T3 and T4.
This year, the Christmas lights at Perth Airport have been dedicated to the Lights for Lifeline program. Run by Lifeline, a not-for-profit suicide prevention organisation providing services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the dedication of lights aims to raise vital funds for the organisation.
Now in its seventh year, Perth Airport’s Christmas Tree decorating competition involves students from five local Primary Schools – Ardross, Bayswater, Belmont, Guildford and Kewdale – who created handcrafted decorations for trees which can now be seen at Gate 16 on level one at T3. You can vote for your favourite tree by completing an entry form by Wednesday 16 December 2015 and placing it in the ballot box near the display.
"The competition provides a great opportunity for local students to get involved in a community project that contributes to the festive season and provides a bit of Christmas cheer for travellers,” said Fiona Lander, Executive General Manager, Corporate Affairs.
Passengers and visitors to Perth Airport will also be entertained by world-class artists in the week leading up to Christmas. From classical to jazz and Latin American, outstanding musicians from the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra, Perth Symphony and Honours graduates from the WA Academy of Performing Arts will perform and entertain.
“With the opening of our new world-class T1 Domestic Terminal, it seemed appropriate that we expand our Christmas activities to include performances by some of Perth’s and Australia’s best musicians,” said Ms Lander.
“The performers have also expressed their delight in having the opportunity to perform at the airport, and will be playing a mix of some old Christmas favourites as well as giving a new twist to some familiar tunes.
“Whether you are travelling during the holiday period or just visiting the airport, we’re sure you’ll be immersed in the Christmas spirit at Perth Airport,” said Ms Lander.
