Eat, play, fly – a new international departures experience

22 February, 2016
With more than four million international passengers, many of them families, travelling through Perth Airport each year, creating a new and spacious family-friendly area was a key element in transforming the international departures experience.

The $12.5 million, 927 square metre expansion at the eastern end of the level 2 departures lounge includes Haymarket, a contemporary new “six-in-one” food and beverage outlet and an exciting new children’s play area.

“We wanted to create an area specifically for families where parents can relax in comfortable seating, while their children play close by in a colourful and safe area – all in close proximity to great food options,” said Brad Geatches, Chief Executive Officer, Perth Airport.

“Navigating check-in, Immigration and security screening with young children can take some of the shine off the start to a family holiday so, in this area, parents can now de-stress before their flight and little travellers will have a memorable start to their journey,” he said.

The new play area includes airport themed play equipment, interactive game consoles and a light wall.

Nearby, the newest addition to Perth Airport’s food and beverage offering - Haymarket – provides something for everyone and incorporates a bar, café, bakery, delicatessen, juice bar and pizzeria.

“Haymarket offers customers a unique and complete dining experience, with an extensive range of food and beverage options to choose from, all in one convenient location,” said Mr Geatches.

Haymarket is operated by well-known Western Australian executive chef Chris Taylor in partnership with Red Rock Leisure.

“As part of Perth Airport’s $1 billion redevelopment program, we have unveiled a number of diverse and innovative dining options across T1 Domestic and T1 International that raise the bar in terms of the quality of the dining experience people expect at the airport,” he said.

“We will continue to focus on improving the experience for our customers and on offering authentic products, high quality service, value for money and greater choice,” said Mr Geatches.

Perth Airport is also undertaking a $54 million makeover of the T1 forecourt which includes a spacious 27 metre landscaped plaza with two new food and beverage outlets that can be accessed from both inside and outside the terminal and four new retail shops. This project will be completed towards the end of 2016.
